Description
Perfect for smaller spaces where larger growing camellias won’t fit, ‘Reverend Ida’ is a red flowering and even smaller growing version of its parent the ShiShi Gashira Camellia. A plethora of bright, double flowers with almost-red petals surrounding and contrasting beautifully with a patch of bright golden stamens are produced in abundance over a long period from mid-fall well into winter. Compact plants grow to around 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide making them excellent for use in small spaces, home foundation plantings, groupings, in containers, or as a Bonsai specimen.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing only 2 to 3 feet tall and about 3 to 4 feet wide (depending on pruning), the Reverend Ida Camellia is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a hedge in landscape borders and is especially suited for use in partially shaded home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Camellia gardens, Asian gardens, red theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter by those who live and garden above USDA Zone 7a, where this camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing: 3 feet apart for solid hedge; 7 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

I could not have been happier with my recent order of two varieties of dwarf camellia. The plants arrive well packaged and in superb condition! One of the varieties I ordered was not available due to not meeting their standards. The representative worked with me to find a suitable substitute and shared some of cost of shipping to compensate for my trouble. This is truly outstanding service! The plants have been planted for about a month and are doing very well. I will definitely order from Wilson Bros again!——————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy your purchase for years to come!
