Description
This is the single-trunk topiary tree form of the ‘Dusky Maiden Smoke Bush, one of the most unique trees you’ll ever plant and enjoy in your garden. Fuller than other Cotinus, Dusky Maiden is a hybrid cross of Cotinus szechuanensis and Cotinus coggryia ‘Velvet Cloak’. It gets its name from the dusky colored foliage and cloud-like flowers resembling puffs of smoke. But the color show isn’t only about the unique flowers. What’s most attractive throughout the season are the almost circular and eucalyptus-like dark blue-green leaves heavily flushed with deep burgundy in spring to dusky purple-green in summer before turning to shades of yellow, orange and red with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall. Grace is very tolerant of poor and dry soils when established so is a fine selection for the Xeriscape(low water needs). A site to behold in the garden!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 8 feet tall with a rounded canopy 5 to 6 feet wide at maturity, the Dusky Maiden Smoke Tree is ideal for use as a focal point specimen or use two to frame an entryway. Also does well in pots provided the soil is well drained. Line the interior of pots with a porous landscape fabric to prevent drainage holes from becoming stopped up with roots. Identical trees 4 feet tall came in the usual supportive containers and was thrilled with their appearance of health, exactly how they appeared in photo at your site. got them into the ground within three days timing with the local weather/temperature. One in front of property and one in backyard (they couldn’t go on either side of driveway as envisoned due to lines and cables running down one side of the driveway. Wilson Bros. do plants the way you’d hope they would. They are the only company I order from for the last 5 years.————————————–Wow! Thanks for the kind words and awesome review!
