Description
A kaleidoscope of color, we’ve never seen a tree like the Carolina Sweetheart Redbud. Following the brilliant pink flowers that nearly cover the branches in spring, new leaves emerge a maroon-purple color. Then, as the season progresses the leaves transition to various shades and variegated patterns of hot pink, white and green – truly remarkable! Eventually, during summer the large heart-shape leaves turn to green with a white margin. Sure to be a conversation piece, Carolina Sweetheart is an eye-catching specimen tree and for use around the home or in sunny to partially shaded landscape or woodland borders.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 15 to 25 feet tall and wide, the Carolina Sweetheart Redbud tree is ideal for use as a focal specimen or in groupings in sunny to partially shaded landscape or woodland borders. Also nice to mark each side of an entryway and to provide beauty and some shade around patios, porches and other outdoor living spaces. Excellent planted among azaleas in woodland borders.
Suggested Spacing: 30 feet or more for space between trees
Growing Preferences
The Carolina Sweetheart Redbud tree is very easy to grow in most any average, moist but well-drained soil and full or part sun. It is very drought tolerant when established. Standing water or constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic.

We ordered a Carolina Sweetheart Eastern Redbud Tree from Wilson Bros Garden in early May, they are the best place to order your trees online, we couldn’t believe how large the tree was. The tree is so healthy and beautiful, we love it! It’s doing great! It’s gets morning to midday sun and now that it’s July the past weeks we’ve had temperatures in the upper 90’s with heat index of 100 or more, with this heat the young tree has been wilting a little, but we water it that afternoon and the next morning it’s just as beautiful, I love it so much… next year we have to buy another one from Wilson Bros Garden, they are truly the best place to order from : )————————————–We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase!
