Description
One of the most stunningly colorful summer-flowering shrubs in our gardens and truly a sight to behold, ‘Berry Dazzle’ is one of our favorites out of the Dazzle Dwarf Crape Myrtle Series developed by the Michael Dirr Breeding Program at the University of Georgia. The deep green foliage of Berry Dazzle becomes literally covered by large, intense fuchsia-purple flower clusters in summer. Another fine attribute is the handsome burgundy-red fall foliage.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, Berry Dazzle Crape is an ideal selection for an accent or specimen in smaller garden spaces or as a stand alone in containers, which can conveniently be brought indoors for overwintering by those of you who garden north of USDA Cold Hardiness Zone 6a. In larger landscape spaces Cherry Dazzle is outstanding in small to large groupings or as a colorful hedge.
Suggested Spacing: 3′ for hedges, 6′ or for space between plants

Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Crape Myrtle variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Dazzle Dwarf Crape Myrtles are exceptionally easy to grow and maintain when planted right and in the right spot. They’re not too picky about soil type however prefer a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and as much sun as you can give them. Light shade is tolerated but flowering is diminished with more shade. Maintenance is minimal, with very little if any pruning required for plants to maintain density and a nice form. That said, spent flowers can be removed to encourage a possible second flush of flowers. A light pruning before leaves emerge in early spring can help to maintain a more dense shrub. When established, plants are quite drought tolerant; only requiring supplemental water during prolonged dry periods during summer. As with all other crape myrtle, deer won’t touch the Dazzles.
